Pressure Testing

Pressure testing is done using a hydrostatic test pump suitable for testing pipe from 63mm to 630mm in diameter.
Testing of all mains Ductile Iron and ‘creep reactive’ pipe materials such as HPPE, MDPE etc will be done using a pressure data logger.
Testing of Ductile Iron will be done using the water loss procedure and data logger for a permanent record.
All test units carry laptop computers to enable interpretation of logger results to be carried out on site immediately after the test has been completed. The results of each test will be downloaded on site and the client will be given a print out of pressure readings, a graph and test certificate.
Pressure Test Scotland adheres to the WRC publication “A Guide to Testing of Water Supply Pipelines and Sewer Rising Mains” and “Scotland for Water”.

Recommendations For Pressure Test
1. All pipelines should be swabbed to get rid of debris and air.
2. Using blank plates at terminals with either 1” or 2” bsp bored holes.
3. Pressure testing in sections no longer than 1000m.
4. Keep in contact with Scottish Water Inspector regarding drawings, track inspections, the booking in 2 weeks prior regarding pressure test and disinfection.
5. Do not bore top tees until pressure test and disinfection has been completed.
6. Always mark location of Electro-fusion and mechanical fittings using spray paint.
